Recycling Retraction...

Hi folks!

First, some housekeeping: Regrettably, I must retract my assertion on the "What's in Your Garbage" video that the butter carton is recyclable. Sadly, because it has a coating of plastic, it is not. It SHOULD be, but that's beside the point. I think I was so distracted by the wasted tin cans and egg shells that I lost my head for a second. Anyway, sorry about that. I'll be more careful from now on when I post an informational video. Okay?

Second, I want to thank you for all your great composting comments and questions. I'm totally amped by this conversation. My plan is to put up a post in the next day or two about red worm composting.

Third, look it!

It's an article about WasteFreeLiving.com and yours truly in today's Burlington Free Press.

one mor ething-about cans-my town wants containers rinsed. My appliance guy says you should remove labels if you wash any cans or jars in the dishwasher. What's easiest for me is, if the label is easy to remove I compost the label and wash the can of jarin the dishwasher. If the label doesn;t want to come off, I soak and then handrinse it.

The only exception is that baked beans often have metallic inks in their labels, so I trash those labelse.

Hi, love your blog and videos.

My question is, how to recycle when you are a city dweller living in a city that is very cold and will get lots of snow soon. Any organizational tips in this process would be helpful.

My question is the same as above. I love in NYC.--how to compost here with roaches already a huge problem? I would like to try but not if it's gonna mean more bugs...
